Savannah Children's Theater
Don't let the name fool you — SCT is one of the best entry points for performers of any age in Savannah. MainStage productions run throughout the school year with open auditions, classes run year-round, and summer camps culminate in a full performance. A genuine community theater in the best sense of the word.
Regional Theater · Professional · Adult focus
Savannah Theatre
One of the Southeast's oldest continuously operating theaters and more of a regional theater than a traditional community theater. Professional-quality productions with long multi-week runs and a paid staff model — performers are hired and cast across multiple shows depending on fit, so auditions are more like a job interview than a one-show tryout. Primarily adult casting but kids are occasionally invited to audition for select shows. Follow their Instagram for youth casting news. Oh, and it's reportedly haunted — just another reason to love it.
Theater · Classes · Community · Auditions
Savannah Stage Company
A community-minded theater company with a strong presence in Savannah. Annual auditions, regular adult classes, and occasional camps and classes for younger performers. Shows are typically staged at Tybee Post Theater. Heavy community engagement, a youth playwright contest for Chatham County, and pay-what-you-can scholarships make this one of the most accessible theater companies in the area.
Theater · Venue · Auditions
Tybee Post Theater
A beloved small venue that hosts productions from several Savannah theater companies including Savannah Stage Company and New Oak Theater. Keep an eye on their website for audition postings — and following the theater companies who perform there is one of the best ways to get in front of the people who run it.
Theater · Community · Outside Savannah
Richmond Hill Community Theater
A small community theater about 25 minutes south of Savannah with 2–3 productions per year. Most opportunities skew adult but youth are occasionally cast and there's one summer camp per year. A good option for performers outside the city who want a local stage to call home.
Theater · Youth friendly · Outside Savannah
The Hive Theater
Located in Rincon, The Hive is worth the drive — especially for younger performers. With 2–4 shows a year plus 1–2 camps, there are real opportunities to get on stage. Smaller theaters often mean bigger parts, and The Hive has a welcoming reputation for kids and families.
Theater · Literary · Adult
Savannah Repertory Theater
A more serious, literary theater that produces plays written by local playwrights — rarely musicals, occasionally PG-13 content. Year-round auditions and a recently launched Savannah Musical Theater Festival make this an active option for adult performers. Not typically a fit for younger performers but worth following as you get more serious.
Theater · New · One to watch
New Oak Theater
Brand new to Savannah and already making noise. New Oak has done one production so far and has plans to add classes and training as they grow. Follow them closely — getting in early with a new theater is a great way to build relationships before the competition heats up. One to watch.
Choirs
Choir · Youth · Audition based
Savannah Children's Choir
One of Savannah's most respected youth choral programs with a reputation that extends well beyond the city. The choir has toured in England, Ireland, and France and has appeared on television internationally. Offers both a regular choir and a more selective touring choir — the touring program is audition based. Roger Moss, a well known vocal coach in the Savannah area, is connected to the program making it a genuine training ground as well as a performance opportunity.
Choir · Adult focus · All welcome
Spectra Women's Choir
A high caliber, creative choral program run by vocal coach Tegan Miller. Spectra centers its programming around empowering women through music with feminist-themed repertoire and strong musicianship. Open to all ages and experience levels though the group skews adult. A unique and meaningful performance community for women and girls in the Savannah area.
